The Importance of Play

Adulting is hard. Honestly, it’s not my favorite thing to do.

Thankfully, I have someone in my life who helps to remind me of the importance of play on a daily (nay - moment-by-moment) basis.

She is the apple of my eye, joy of my joys, and heart of my heart. She is one of my most favorite people, and I am honored to walk alongside her during this lifetime. I’m also so happy she loves to experiment and create things with me. From artistic endeavors, to playing in the kitchen, to creating a podcast and a blog, this kiddo is up for any adventure I happen to throw her way. And, at age 11, she’s still inviting me into her creations. And so, we invite you to come along for the ride with our podcast & blog - Imaginative Izzy!

Hi! I'm Izzy and this is me... well... being... me! And for all of my life... all 10 years... my imagination has been one of my best friends. So, I thought I might share a little bit about what life is like being Imaginative Izzy. So.. let's begin!

Working Through the Worries

Since our last posting, a lot has happened in the world. COVID-19 is not only what we’re all talking about, it’s on everybody’s mind. Several years ago, when Izzy was about 5 or 6 years old, I started asking her two questions as we shut off the light each night at bedtime, as a way to recenter and focus on what had happened that day.

Putting a voice to emotions

Recently, Izzy was having a challenging time at school, which was pouring over into how she felt generally. As a mom, all I wanted to do was jump in and mama bear the heck out of the situation. You know… fix it. Wave my magic wand and make it all better. Have her feel no pain, no frustration, to just make it all okay. But, as hard as I try, I can’t seem to locate that darned magic wand, and I had to try something else.

Who are we?

As two people who spend a great deal of time together, we’ve noticed how much sharing, exploration, and bonding we’ve been able to do. And, we never know what we’re going to end up with. CAR TALKS WITH MAMA and IMAGINATIVE IZZY are two collaborations between myself, Mama Kim, and our 10-year-old daughter, Izzy.
